Literacy Narrative, IS

Part 1B: Learning Outcome 2

The second learning outcome is being able to integrate my ideas with ideas of others using quotes, paraphrasing, summary, through analysis and synthesis, which was something I had struggled with. In high school, I took AP U.S. History where I had to do this using history events and ideas so I did have a background of knowing how to do it. However, I still was thankful for peer review and when our professor would review our work as well because they would point out instances where they didn’t understand what I was saying and how it was relevant to my topic. To make it easier for me to make connections among my ideas and others ideas, I would find a quote from each source I was using and make a connection between them. This process worked for me because as long as I could do that, I could also analyze them in a way that would connect and also support my claim. In my showcase paper, the Literacy Analysis, I did this easily because between 2 sources, Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, and Carol Dweck’s Power of Yet speech, I could connect the fact that both stories emphasized the power of knowledge and believing in yourself and OTHERS.
