My group chose to do our dissemination project on stress reduction among nurses. After thorough research on different techniques that have been proven to work for health care workers, we narrowed the focus of stress reduction to be on MBSR inside and outside work settings, light reduction, and having friendships at work. We presented the project as a poster to the nurses on the unit, and they really liked the ideas. They are dealing with a lot of stress right now with COVID-19 and constant change of plan of care. The feedback they gave us was that those ideas were really helpful and definitely easy enough to implement into their lifestyles. They also noted how they have really good friendships on the floor among each other, one even noting “I have a work wife”. Another stress reducer we noticed that they participated in was listening to music in the charting rooms (softly, of course!). Overall, stress reduction in nurses allows for more compassionate care to patients, which is truly what nursing is all about.
