So for a paper we are writing, we are jotting down some brain storming ideas and details. Since the paper is about how I became literate, I did a timeline on my journey. It includes how I learned to read and how I felt about reading up until now. It looks like this:
Pre-K- I loved learning and reading. I excelled at reading during this time.
Elementary school: Once again I excelled at reading and writing, and I really enjoyed school.
Middle school: I was still in higher level reading and writing classes, which was good and some of the best books I read were from middle school. For example, I really connected with “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. It was my favorite book for so long.
High school: In high school, I was in considerably higher level classes. I took multiple honors classes, 1 AP class, and one class that I related to health sciences that I ended up getting my LNA. But anyway, I felt like reading was a chore at this point. In order for me to read a book, it is either being forced because of a class or it’s something I’m really interested in. For example, I loved books like Until I Say Goodbye or My Sister’s Keeper because they were narratives about degenerative diseases, which is something that relates to my career field.
